Alexander Skarsgard

Alexander Hjalmar Johan Skarsgård (Stockholm, Sweden, August 25, 1976) is a Swedish actor and director. Alexander is best known for his role on True Blood as Eric Northman.

Personal Life
He is the son of Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård and Mye Skarsgård. He has six siblings: Gustaf Skarsgård (born 1980), Sam Skarsgård (born 1982), Bill Skarsgård (born 1990), Eija Skarsgård (born 1992), Valter Skarsgård (born 1995) and half-brother Ossian (born in 2009).

Career

Son of well-known actor Stellan Skarsgård, Alexander began acting at the tender age of 8, when he starred in "Åke och hans Värld" ("Åke and His World"), where he played Kalle Nubb best friend of the protagonist Åke (Martin Lindström). In 1989, he decided that public life was not for him, because he did not like the media attention and people looking at him in the street. He wanted to be an architect. At that moment, he put his career on hold.
Years later attended college political science, joined the Swedish military service as a Marine at the age of 20 years. Fifteen months in the service left a lot of time to reflect on his life and he decided then that he would return to acting after a hiatus of 10 years. For this, he moved to Leeds, England, then to New York, where he attended Marymount School Theatre. After six months in New York, love lure him back to Sweden, but failed.
He decided to remain in Sweden and began doing roles in film and television. He played the role of Johan awarded the "Avenge av Glas" ("Wings of Glass") in 2000. Not long after Alex was a Swedish star!
In 2001, he starred in the American film "Zoolander," in the role of Meekus, the super model friend of Ben Stiller.
Alex also participated in theater productions such as "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" And "Bloody Wedding".
In 2003 Alexander along with his friend, Björne Larson directed the award winning short "Att doda ett barn" ("Kill a Child"), based on the short story by Stig Dagerman. This film features the participation of his father, actor Stellan Skarsgård as narrator and actions of his brother Valter Skarsgård.
It was nominated for a Guldbagge in 2003 by male supporting role in the film Hundtricket.
Since 2005, with his performances in Revelations and The Last Drop, he participated in international productions.
In 2008, he starred in the HBO miniseries "Generation Kill," based on the book of the same name, in which he plays a U.S. marine, Sgt. Brad "Iceman" Colbert. It was in this role that his American audience began to notice the actor.
After that he was able to take the role of Eric Northman (thanks to the writers' strike), on the HBO drama series "True Blood." The character and television series are based on the saga "Sookie Stackhouse" by Charlaine Harris. Skarsgård plays the role of Eric Northman, the vampire sheriff and owner of the local "Fangtasia", a vampire bar.
In 2009, Skarsgård appeared in the music video of pop singer Lady Gaga, "Paparazzi." He also has three films currently in post-production, Metropia, Beyond the Pole. He is scheduled to star in the remake of "Under the Domain of Fear (1971)" (Straw Dogs), along with Kate Bosworth and James Marsden. Filming is set to begin in August 2009.

Skarsgård won 2 Scream Award for "Best Villain" for his role as Eric Northman in True Blood one in 2009 and another for "Best Actor" in 2010.
Alexander is also confirmed for the new film 'Melancholia' director Lars Von Trier with his father, Stellan, who is also in the cast. Filming happen in Sweden from July to September and is scheduled to debut May 26 2011.Há rumors that there will be display of Melancholia at Cannes.
